Tidal and Apple are (to my knowledge) the only services that offer multichannel music (Dolby Atmos). Ironically I was on the verge of cancelling my long standing Tidal subscription when I got obsessed about multichannel streaming. Not so minor was that Qobuz is almost half the price of Tidal. I doubt I'd be able to tell the difference between CD and anything higher in a controlled test. They stream regular FLAC files at whatever sample & bit rate the labels give them. I found Qobuz's hi-res offerings conceptually much simpler. ![]() Personally I think there's more than little foil hat-ism in that video and with people who sound like their preaching hellfire and damnation when MQA comes up. This video does a deep dive into the issues of MQA and Tidal's attempt at high res music. Much later I took a more critical look at MQA and wasn't sure what I was seeing. I even made sure my dedicated streamer supported MQA when I got it 2 years ago. I was a Tidal subscriber not long after they launched and have been very happy with it. The sound quality is unsurpassed if you have the equipment to make the most of it, but it isn’t for everyone and I don’t think they try to be. But Qobuz doesn’t swamp you with a million options and it is geared toward more sophisticated listeners. Once you master the system and learn where stuff is you will never run out of options. And you can turn on a feature that feeds you a new song once you get to the end of individual songs or lists you’ve chosen. They also feed you a personalized list to explore every week. No shortage of paths to find new stuff to listen to. But there are also ones put together by performers, labels, record stores, etc., plus the expected vast assortment based on moods, genres, new music, themes, artist best-ofs, etc. My favorites are the ones put together by what they call their hi-fi partners like headphone or speaker manufacturers or audio experts which are used to show off equipment. Qobuz offers hundreds of playlists, curated by actual humans. Subreddit's theme is /r/Minimaluminiumalism.
